Stephen Power is a self-taught artist from Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary. His journey with Art supported by his wife Bernie and family began in 2015 after he was laid off from his long-term employment. Stephen has been a member of the Tudor Artisan Hub, Arts Collective here in Carrick-on-Suir since April 2016. He built his own beautiful art studio ‘The Dobber Studio' in 2021 with the help of his family.
Stephen has Spina bifida, his disability, his passion for music, and his love of nature have been the principal driving forces in the path of the subject matter in his art collection. He finds the freedom to express himself without limitations by creating abstract art with acrylics.
Stephen has exhibited in several solo and group exhibitions over the last 8 years and has collaborated with other creatives on many art initiatives through the Tudor Artisan Hub.
Stephen is continually finding new ways to express himself though his artwork and always eager to learn new techniques to enhance his skills, endeavouring to expand engagement and reach new audiences. Being part of the Hub arts collective has greatly helped Stephen as it provided a safe space to interact with other artists, get advice, support on so many aspects of how to pursue art full time, to help develop his own unique style and thrive as a visual artist.
Stephen welcomes engagement and conversations around his work and is open to new ideas, his wheels are always turning for the next collection!
Stephen's work is on display in our upstairs galleries. Additional body of work on display in Stephen's home studios. Stephen is delighted to accept commissions, please inquire within.

Something new for 2026
These two new original paintings from local artist Stephen Power are the first of a planned 8-part series where 'abstract art meets Icelandic post-rock'!. Inspired by the cinematic, atmospheric soundscapes of Sigur Rós, Stephen has begun translating the tracks of their iconic 2002 ( ) album into fluid, original compositions.
Vaka (Track #1)
In this piece, Stephen uses a dreamlike palette of soft oranges, purples, and blues to mirror the song’s 'ambient atmospherics.' By blending these colours into a weightless "air colour" style, he captures the same sense of mystery and stillness found in the track's sparse, organic textures.
Popplagið (Track #8)
Representing the album's epic 12-minute finale, this painting shifts into a turbulent mix of deep violets, electric blues, and fractured whites. It mirrors the song’s famous transition from a minimalist melody into a massive 'wall of sound.' Using his signature 'letting go' technique, Stephen distils the track’s explosive energy and rhythmic intensity into a visceral dance of light and shadow.
By choosing "Vaka" and "Popplagið" to start the series, Stephen has captured the two extreme poles of that album, the fragile beginning and the earth-shattering end!
There is no title to Stephen's new collection and the paintings remain untitled... 'No words needed, just pure emotion, translating sound into sight'...
Stephen, is a huge fan of this iconic group and has seen them perform live on multiple occasions...they are bringing their world tour to Ireland in September 2026 for a series of special orchestral performances. These shows feature the band collaborating with the Ulster Orchestra!
Completing an 8-part series for an 8-track album is a deeply committed tribute that fans alike will appreciate!

Track #8
The abstract painting by Stephen Power for "Untitled #4" (Njósnavélin) perfectly captures the transition point of the album, where the music begins to shift from delicate melody toward a vast, atmospheric expanse.
 Visual Interpretation:
"The Spy Machine" In this piece, Stephen uses a cool, ethereal palette. The misty blues and shimmering whites mirror the song's reputation as the "bridge" of the album. Just as the song was famously used in the film Vanilla Sky to represent a hazy, dreamlike reality, this painting uses fluid, layered textures to create a sense of looking through a window into another world
Emotional Resonance: The Atmospheric Void: The central bright area reflects the song's steady, rhythmic build-up and the "weightless" feeling of Jónsi’s vocals.
The Turning Point: The darker, shadowed edges of the canvas hint at the 36 seconds of silence that follow this track, signalling the end of the album's lighter first half.
Pure Emotion: True to Stephen's philosophy for this series, the painting avoids literal imagery, instead translating the song's melancholic yet hopeful soundscape into "sight".

No One Left Behind Series
In summer 2023, Stephen had a negative experience at a large public event due to accessibility barriers and this has inspired him to create a new body of work entitled ‘No One left behind’. Through this beautiful exhibition Stephen highlighted and raised awareness about the lack of accountability there is in Ireland for accessibility at public events and together lobby to help change this.
The exhibition was held in the Carrick-on-Suir Library, which is a perfect accessible, inclusive and inviting venue to host this very special exhibition, which ran during the month of December 2023. This exhibition was interactive, Stephen has organised talks and workshops supported by the Library – information will be posted on social media. Stephen hopes over the course of the 4 weeks, ‘No One Left Behind’ showcase will ignite people of all ages and abilities to start talking more freely about disability and accessibility and that people might in future view spaces with this in mind, be more conscious about what people with disabilities may have to endure and reach out to help make change for all, eliminate barriers to build a more inclusive society.

Let's hear from Stephen about being part of the Tudor Artisan Hub
"What the hub means to me...It's like a family, it's a place I have grown in confidence not just in my art work but within my personality. You will always find a helping hand, whether that's Linda or a fellow artist.
Being part of the initiative has opened doors for me I would have never thought possible.
It's helped me fight for change in different aspects that have affected me and given me the drive I needed to pursue personal goals.

The last 8 years have been one of the best chapters in my life, I have had many highs, having children, getting married and building my studio and having Linda and the hub are up there on the list.
Thanks to all the customers for your love and support and amazing feedback over the years.
The biggest thanks of all to Linda for all her amazing work." - Stephen
