Meet the Maker - Artist/Crafter/Photographer Patsy Choi

Patsy has been a member of the Tudor Artisan Hub Arts Collective since we opened our doors in 2014.

Patsy is an avid photographer and a mixed media artist. As a photographer, Patsy masterfully captures the raw beauty of nature through her lens. As an artist Patsy works in a variety of mediums, she loves experimenting with new ideas and creates beautiful treasures by upcycling materials. She blends various techniques, combining traditional methods with unconventional materials, to produce works that challenge the viewer's perceptions of art and its boundaries. The use of inks, with their vibrant colours and fluidity, allows her to add depth and emotion to her pieces, making each creation more than just a visual experience; they become a tactile journey.

What sets this artist apart is her innovative approach to upcycling, particularly with tin cans, which many would consider to be mundane, everyday items. She sees beyond their initial utility and past their perceived obsolescence, envisioning them as components of something much more significant. Through her hands, these tin cans are meticulously cut, shaped, and combined with other materials, undergoing a metamorphosis into intricate pieces of art. This process not only highlights her creativity and skill but also makes a profound statement on sustainability and the potential for rebirth in what is often deemed as waste.

Each piece, whether it's a photograph that captures the ethereal beauty of a spider or a mixed media sculpture that intricately weaves together bits of nature with upcycled materials, tells a story. It's a narrative of exploration, of finding beauty in the unexpected, and of the endless possibilities that lie in both the natural and the recycled.
